The FCA National Team to Face the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team
January 13-14, 2012
(TAMPA, Fla.) – On January 13-14, 2012, many of the nation’s finest softball stars will gather at Plant City Stadium, the International Softball Federation World Headquarters, to take on the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team in a special “God & Country Weekend.”
“We are pleased to welcome the FCA All-Stars and Wounded Warriors team to the Tampa Bay area in January,” said Jason Aughey, Sales & Events Manager for the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. “This event will feature remarkable athletes and promises great competition and a great time for all involved.”
This family-friendly weekend is an excellent way to support our servicemen and women. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Softball (FCA) All-Star team will include Olympic Gold Medalist Dot Richardson, two-time Olympic medalist Jennie Finch, three-time Olympic gold medalist Leah Amico and many more. The FCA All-Stars will be outfitted by Two Five Apparel and fans will be able to purchase raffle tickets for the opportunity to win these game jerseys off the pros’ backs. The Wounded Warriors team will feature some of the nation’s bravest heroes. The team is comprised of soldiers and veterans who sustained severe injuries in combat that required amputation. In spite of this, these extremely athletic soldiers have persevered through extensive rehabilitation to remain competitive.
“We are honored to be able to set up this weekend’s many events with these special men and women. It will be a great opportunity to see some fun softball, meet the players, and most of all, get our message and the message of the WWAST to many people,” said Bob Pinto, FCA National Softball Director. “We are very appreciative to have the Tampa Bay Sports Commission on board. Their input and direction is invaluable.”
